My name is Richard Kotze and I have a passion for Web Design and Development. RK1 Web Designs is a portfolio web site on which to exhibit my work. I am a member of British Computer Society (BCS) and "... is the leading body for those working in IT." All the work I do is to a professional level and assure high quality work. Why web design and development?

Being able to combine my creative talents whilst working on computers has always been important to me. With my artistic talent I plan to create visually appealing sites. I believe that well designed graphics and layouts improve user enjoyment. Problem solving is something that I have always been good at and carefully analyse a situation before making decisions. By furthering my skill in web design and programming I aim to become an accomplished application developer.
I currently study at the University of Greenwich and I am studying a degree in Web Technology. I have now completed my second year, successfully with a first. Before going to Greenwich University I studying with the Open university, in web development.

My Skills

I comply with web standards and make sure that my XHTML code and CSS validates. I make certain the page layout is controlled completely using CSS and try to use tables only for tabular data.

My main skills are in web site programming technologies both on the client site and server side. When it comes to designing web sites they should be designed in such a way that users find it easy to use. This is why the main aim is to design easy to use interfaces and to create dynamic, eye pleasing web sites.

I have a high level of skill in JavaScript programming and specialise in DHTML. I produce high quality flash animations and web sites using ActionScript 3.0 of which I have a very good understanding. I also have a high level of skill in photoshop to create impressive looking and clean cut graphics.

Server-side I have an intermediate level of skill in PHP and MySQL. I am currently furthering my studys in PHP & MySQL.

How I work

I usually hand code my work because I find it gives a person more flexibility to be more creative and reduce file size by half compared to most software packages. However, if the brief calls for a web site to be created quickly, I have a very good understanding of how to use Dreamweaver and PhotoShop. Also how to use other Adobe and Micorsoft software products.
